CJ Grace has developed a six-part program to stop feeling like hell after discovering infidelity. This program is useful to cope with the emotional impact of almost any kind of adversity. CJ has used it to get through both infidelity and breast cancer. To learn more about how to get rid of negative emotions, read CJ’s book Adulterer’s Wife: How to Thrive Whether You Stay or Not. These are the six things you can do:
- Find confidants and mentors with your best interests at heart. Try to have at least one who is of the opposite sex to you, as you might get useful insights that are very different from those of same-sex confidants.
- Cultivate existing and new connections who are friends of your own rather than people you know through your spouse. Try to have friends of both sexes.
- Laughter Therapy—hang out with people who make you laugh rather than bring you down, and watch comedies not depressing dramas.
- Love your body and become beautiful—eat well and exercise to get healthier and banish the blues.
- Find your passion and be a hedonist, making time to do things you enjoy rather than constantly keeping your nose to the grindstone.
- Live in the present and become more mindful, fully engaged in what you’re doing right now. Read CJ’s FREE mini eBook—Overcoming Infidelity: Tools to Tame the Roller Coaster of Negative Emotions to learn some techniques you can use to achieve this. One of them is a mindfulness exercise using chocolate that you can practice right now by following along with CJ.
You can work on these six steps in any order and you won’t necessarily finish one part and then move on to the next. Most likely, you’ll be doing some of these things simultaneously. The aim is to become a more complete, creative and joyful person, with or without a partner.
