Infidelity Book List

I reference more than forty books in Adulterer’s Wife: How to Thrive Whether You Stay or Not. I did this purely to make sure it had enough footnotes to become a recommended text for a college course somewhere, perhaps Adultery Studies 101. Then I found out that footnotes don’t work in Kindle, so I had to take all the damn things out, but I still left the book references in.

For your reading pleasure, I’m listing some of these books below. However, if the fancy takes me, I may list other titles that have absolutely nothing to do with anything else on this website.

Relationships

Chapman, Gary D., The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, 2010.
Druckerman, Pamela, Lust in Translation: Infidelity from Tokyo to Tennessee, 2007.
Nogales, Ana, Parents Who Cheat: How Children & Adults Are Affected When Their Parents Are Unfaithful, 2009.
Pedro-Carrol, JoAnne, Putting Children First: Proven Parenting Strategies for Helping Children Thrive through Divorce, 2010.
Resnick, Stella, The Heart of Desire: Keys to the Pleasures of Love, 2012.
Resnick, Stella, The Pleasure Zone: Why We Resist Good Feelings and How to Let Go and Be Happy, 1997.
Rosenberg, Marshall, Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life, 2003.

Sex

Comfort, Dr., Alex, The Joy of Sex. New York: Crown Publishers, 2002. However, there’s a newer version published in 2009. Or if you want an antique, get the original edition from 1972. I inadvertently bought the 2002 compact edition without realizing that was what I purchased on Amazon. It’s great for hiding in your handbag, but if you’re a baby boomer like me, you’ll probably need to double up on magnifying glasses to read the small print. Rather inconvenient if you’re trying to use the manual while actually bonking.
Daedone, Nicole, Slow Sex: The Art and Craft of the Female Orgasm, 2011.
Why Do I Get An Irresistible Urge To Laugh Every Time I Make Love, 1971. Raunchy cartoons from Playboy magazine that inspired some of the ones I conceived for my book and this website.
Roach, Mary, Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex, 2008.
Ryan, Christopher and Jetha, Cacilda, Sex at Dawn: How We Mate, Why We Stray, and What It Means for Modern Relationships, 2010.
Saxon, Lynn, Sex at Dusk: Lifting the Shiny Wrapping from Sex at Dawn2012.

Diet

One way to raise your self-esteem when your husband is off bonking floozies is to work at becoming beautiful both inside and out. There may be less of you to love if you follow some of the advice in the following books, and you may find all kinds of other guys are appreciating you in ways you had not expected…
Davis MD, William, Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health, 2011.
Perlmutter, David, Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs and Sugar—Your Brain’s Silent Killers, 2013.
Pollan, Michael, In Defense of Food, 2008.
Smith, Jeffrey, M., Seeds of Deception: Exposing Industry and Government Lies About the Safety of the Genetically Engineered Foods You’re Eating, 2003.
Wansink, PhD, Brian, Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think, 2006.

Misc

Alkon, Amy, Good Manners for Nice People Who Sometimes Say F*ck, 2014. I wonder if she uses the F-word more than I do in my book? Well, at least I decided not to use it in my title.
Breggin MD, Peter R., The Anti-Depressant Fact Book: What Your Doctor Won’t Tell You About Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, and Luvox, 2001. This book answers the question, “Can’t I just take happy pills to feel better about my husband’s philandering?”
Gladwell, Malcolm, Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, 2005. I’ve read many of Malcolm Gladwell’s books and New Yorker articles and they are all absolutely brilliant—highly recommended. He’s a master at showing how a totally counter-intuitive position actually makes sense.
Gladwell, Malcolm, David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants, 2013. Hell, I love this author, so I’m just going to put him in twice!
Halifax, Joan, Being with Dying: Cultivating Compassion and Fearlessness in the Presence of Death, 2008. Your formerly beloved’s adultery may well make you feel as if a part of you has died, so—I kid you not—you may find some of this book to be very relevant to your situation.
Huffington, Arianna, The Sleep Revolution, 2016. Find out about the massively damaging effects of sleep deprivation and how a good night’s kip can benefit all aspects of your life. I guarantee that this book will make you value your sleep more and make at least some changes to improve your sleeping habits.
Lipton, Bruce H., The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter, & Miracles, 2005. Proof that changing your attitude can change your life.
Power, Dale, Fancy Coffins to Make Yourself: A Schiffer Book for Woodworkers, 2001.
Sacks, Oliver, The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat: And Other Clinical Tales, 1985. This wonderful author must win the prize for one of the best book titles ever. He has written numerous fascinating books about bizarre neurological conditions.
Waitzkin, Josh, The Art of Learning: An Inner Journey to Optimal Performance, 2008.
Wrangham, Richard, and Peterson, Dale, Demonic Males: Apes and the Origins of Human Violence, 1996. I had to include this book just for its great title but it is also a fascinating investigation into the biological reasons why males are more violent than females. Well, you already knew that was the case, didn’t you?
